News from Piragis Northwoods Company and the BoundaryWatersCatalog.com:

From some of our Canoe Outfitting Clients:

Mike, Bruce, and I enjoyed another great adventure in the BWCA. In large part it was due, again, to your personal involvement and the thorough service of everyone at Piragis. Months ago Drew helped me with permits and routes, and, although we decided on a shorter trip, his insights kept us dreaming for weeks.

... My brothers and I have booked with you 7 or 8 times. We wouldn’t consider any other outfitter. Piragis’ level of service, dedication to quality, and especially, its people cannot be topped. So we’ll be back within the next 2 years. Let’s have breakfast! -- Patrick Fanelli

"Thanks for your help in making my son's and my trip this Summer a real success.

Will and I were looking for a more remote trip this year and we found it. We started off the Gunflint and paddled West, coming out of Lake One. In the middle, we paddled (and carried) the Frost River. While the low water made the trip a bit challenging at times, we found the remoteness we wanted, going nearly 3 days without seeing other trippers, and seeing moose, otters, beaver, osprey, eagles, and beautiful scenery along the way.

In the latter part of the trip, we paddled some bigger water which was a nice contrast to the first part of the trip which was more portage-oriented. The graphite Minnesota II that we rented from you was great in both conditions - incredibly light to carry and fast on the water. I also love my new Piragis canoe pants - they are all they're advertised to be. Rugged and comfortable."

Jeff & Will Brown

"Here's a couple photos - as you can see, the pants are great for woodcarving as well -- one of the things Will and I enjoy doing in camp."

VOTE YES MINNESOTA

This November 4th, you have a chance to invest in the Minnesota you love. The Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment will provide funding for clean water, game and wildlife habitat, arts and parks and trails. 40% of our lakes and rivers are polluted. Minnesota is set to lose one million acres of open space in the next 25 years. We can change this. We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to make sure that we invest and protect in our state, passing it on to future generations.

(Available October 1, 2008)

Reserve your 2008 Rental Canoes today for pickup after October 1st. There aren't many left, so get yours reserved today. Canoes have been used this season only and have experienced the Boundary Waters and Quetico
Here's an example of what our used canoes look like when you pick them up. All of our rentals are used just one season and then sold. They have many, many years of life left in them. We recondition them at the end of the season by adding some clear resin where needed and then applying a thin layer of marine varnish. Here are some pics of what a typical rental looks like when sold.

Stub Lake Hiking Trail:
My family and I hiked the beautiful Stub Lake Hiking Trail Friday afternoon. It is very well maintained and is a nice 3 mile round trip scenic trail. It should qualify as easy to moderate I would say with very few tangle roots and upstart rocks in the path. Through grasslands and forest the trail rambles and includes an enchanting boardwalk trough a cedar swamp. Since we'd been out playing in the woods and it is now grouse season, we still had our bright orange on... This hike is a nice feature to the Fall Lake Campground. - Tim Stouffer, Piragis
