Art in the Boundary Waters Guided Canoe Trip with artist Brent Spink Trip Dates: September 6 - 12, 2008 Trip Cost: with 2 - 4 guests $1095 (+ tax), with 5 - 7 guests: $895 (+ tax) 6 days paddling, 5 nights camping, First & Last Night hotel room in Ely. This is a great chance to get out in the wilderness and work on some art techniques. Last year the group focused on watercolor with artist Brent Spink. It was a trip that not only boasted fantastic weather during the first week of September, but a full booking of 7 artists plus two guides and lots of fun. We painted some great stuff as well and there's no where better to learn about light, color and perspective than atop a granite outcropping watching the sun rise over a pristine wilderness lake. This was (without exaggeration) one of the best weeks of my life. Brent Spink who is the resident artist guide for this trip is an excellent teacher. He is patient, funny, versatile, a good listener and very talented. By all rights with his extensive experience in the Boundary Waters he could also be the trip guide, but we wanted to free him up as the artist to concentrate on teaching. The knowledge of light and perspective that I gained on the trip was worth the price of the trip all by itself, let alone insight into color and technique. Above and beyond all that, our group of creative paddlers was drawn together each day in a way that only the beauty of the wilderness can do. It was simply wonderful to sit around the campfire after a day of art, paddling, art, fishing, swimming and more art and listen to Brent's stories and share a great meal with the group." -- Tim Stouffer You owe it to yourself to take a week off and discover the liberating feeling of painting and drawing in the wilderness.
