Biking around the Ely Area
The Ely area and Superior National Forest offer tremendous road biking and mountain biking areas. Come on up and see what we are talking about! This is just a sampling so call if you have any questions.
Road Biking:
There are several great rides on paved roads starting from Ely. Here is a list of some options:
Shagawa Lake Loop
Ely to Lake One BWCA entry point on the Fernberg Road
Take Hwy 21 south out of Ely to Blueberry Rd to Hwy 1 and back north to Ely..... loop.
Hwy 21 to Babbitt road was recently re-paved and is nice and smooth, has a shoulder to ride on
Hwy 1 from Ely to Hwy 61on the North Shore (long ride)
Mountain Biking:
Think of all the dirt roads you see as you are coming up to Ely. Grab your mountain bike and let’s go!
Hidden Valley near Ely ride the hills of the xc ski area
Echo Trail lots of forest roads all along one of the best roads in the state
Hwy 1 south to the Tomahawk Rd. A ton of dirt roads all along this remote section of the Superior National Forest
Whether you are a road cyclist or like to get dirty on the old logging roads, this is a must area to check out. Bring your bike, strap on your helmet, and hit the road!
