Retail Store Manager

Piragis Northwoods Company is hiring for our retail store manager position!  Piragis Northwoods Company is a year-round retail store, outfitter, and catalog business on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.  We are a family owned business on our 43rd year of providing expert wilderness advice and product to wilderness lovers around the world. 


Our store manager is the leader on our fast-paced retail floor in Ely, Minnesota.  The store manager’s responsibilities lie in creating an environment in which customer service is the focus and results in meeting and exceeding sales goals.  To reach these goals, the store manager’s duties include hiring and training staff, facilitating product knowledge sessions, scheduling, tracking sales and trends in the outdoor industry, and participating in the merchandising of the store and inventory management.  The store manager must be able to balance labor during the fast-paced tourist season of 5-6 months with a slower winter season.  


A candidate for this position would possess the following qualifications:

  • Love for the outdoors and canoe experience preferred
  • Retail or customer service, preferably in the outdoor industry
  • Leadership of a team of 20+
  • Management and scheduling
  • Time management and organization
  • Merchandising skills

Full-Time, Year-Round Salaried Position

Customer Experience Team Member

Position Narrative

The Customer Experience Team Member has a vital role in the success of the Boundary Waters Catalog. The Boundary Waters Catalog was created with a vision to connect people to the BWCAW, with the use of quality lightweight gear. As a Customer Experience Team Member, you will help to reach the Team’s goal of providing quality customer service. This is completed through the thoughtful customer interactions and the careful, efficient, and detailed packaging of goods.


• Fielding incoming calls and assisting with customer inquiries
• Assisting customers in the bookstore
• Processing and fulfilling catalog orders with the shipping department
• Receiving merchandise
• Additional tasks as assigned


• Strong knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel & Outlook.
• Professional phone demeanor and strong communication skills, both verbal & written.
• Must be flexible and accommodating to take direction, yet also display initiative in completing tasks and resolving issues.
• Attention to detail and accuracy, along with ability to multitask.
• High school diploma required at minimum (or equivalency to).
• Preferred candidates have customer service experience.


• Location: Ely, MN
